The Image Data Analysis Platform has a new leader in Deborah Schmidt. She and her team create software that processes and analyzes image data from biomedicine, material sciences, or environmental research – something that benefits the entire Helmholtz Association.

Dagmar Kainmüller develops computational methods for analyzing vast quantities of image data. On October 1, 2022, she was named Professor of Integrative Imaging Data Sciences at the University of Potsdam.

Biomedicine today is awash with images and the tide is rising. Dagmar Kainmüller is teaching computers to see so that they can help with analyzing the image data. In the process, artificial intelligence is throwing up some unexpected questions that are opening up new lines of research in molecular biology.

In the past year Helmholtz Imaging looked for the "Best Scientific Images" generated by scientist from the Helmholtz Association. Twenty of them are now on display for a short time at the MDC.

Kyle Harrington will lead a new MDC technology platform developing new tools to process any type of imaging data. The new unit will support the Helmholtz Imaging Platform (HIP), a joint effort by the MDC and two other centers to advance image data acquisition, preparation and analysis.

On September 23 data scientists can find out more about career opportunities in applied data sciences at a virtual career fair. The “Helmholtz Virtual Data Science Career Day“ with several virtual keynotes and over 20 exhibitors is free of charge for participants.

Enabling new applications, learning from one another, linking research fields, harnessing synergies and cumulative experience in imaging processes for all: this is what the new Helmholtz Imaging Platform, coordinated by the MDC, DKFZ and DESY, promises.
