How does research actually work? What do data scientists and animal caretakers do? This year, 17 girls visited the Max Delbrück Center for Girls' Day – and five boys took part in Boys' Day.

Around 220 high school students from across Berlin came to the conference center of the Max Delbrück Center in Buch in mid-March with one topic on their minds: stem cell research. For the tenth time, the German Stem Cell Network (GSCN, stem cell research dialogue platform at BIH) hosted UniStem Day.

From better 3D printers for biological structures to soil remediation with microorganisms – in the 60th round of “Jugend forscht,” regional students presented their exciting research projects on the Berlin-Buch campus.

In her exhibition “Metamorphosis,” Eleonora Adami showcases digital illustrations and cyanotype prints. These works, which invite viewers to reflect on the concepts of change and transformation, will be on display at MDC-BIMSB until the end of January.

In collaboration with illustrator Kat Menschik, Max Delbrück Center science writer Russell Hodge has published a book about the bizarre traits some animals have evolved to cope with their harsh environments. He also explores what we can learn from them. The work was supported by Stiftung Charité.

From November 1 to 10, 2024, researchers and science enthusiasts will come together during Berlin Science Week to discuss important questions about science and society. Kicking off the week, the Max Delbrück Center will present its photo exhibition “Discoverers” for the first time.

The Max Delbrück Center is inviting teachers from all over Germany to visit its laboratories virtually. From September 2024 to July 2025, nine courses on current and curriculum-relevant topics in biomedicine will be offered. The online courses are recognized as professional development in eight of Germany’s federal states.

Children from the Elisabethstift and the Berliner Herz children's hospice got a taste of research during a visit to the Life Science Learning Lab. This opportunity was made possible by a fundraising campaign at the Max Delbrück Center, initiated by two employees and the Association of Friends.

Through various initiatives, the Max Delbrück Center contributes to an objective debate on animal testing. For the second time, the “Understanding Animal Research” initiative has awarded the center the seal of approval for exemplary communication in experimental animal research.

The night of June 22, 2024 was a night of discoveries: Our visitors had the opportunity to dive into the world of biomedical research. They not only had the chance to look over the shoulders of our scientists at work and experiment for themselves, but also to experience the interplay between art and science.
